Woodlawn Baptist Church
Woodlawn Baptist Church was officially formed in 1868. For over a century, the church thrived. At it’s peak, it grew to 394 members. Over the course of it’s life, the church remained committed to biblical teaching, evangelism, church planting, and missions in North America and internationally. The church grew in number and influence, as it grew to 394 people at it’s peak.
Pillar Church of Woodlawn
In 2014, the remaining members of Woodlawn Baptist Church voted to dissolve and transfer its assets to Pillar Church of Dumfries to plant a new church. In Fall 2015, Pillar Church of Woodlawn was launched, with Brian Collison as it’s founding pastor. The church was planted with a particular goal of reaching military members and their families stationed at Ft. Belvoir and other military installations in the National Capital Region. In doing so, the church was planted as part of the Praetorian Project, which is a family of multiplying churches in military communities worldwide.
Pillar Church of Mt. Vernon
Due to the effects of COVID, the Lord led Pillar Church of Woodlawn to undergo a replanting process, starting in 2023. Cody Davis was sent from Pillar Church of Dumfries to serve as the replanting pastor. During this process, the church was renamed to Pillar Church of Mt. Vernon, to better reflect the surrounding community. The church has continued to grow and thrive in our efforts to proclaim the gospel to Ft. Belvoir, Mt. Vernon, and throughout the National Capital Region. We are continuing to see God’s faithfulness as we see people saved, grow, and become sent out to lead others to know Jesus.
